On Specialization

I have a tendency to be rational,
Logical to a fault.
I’m intelligent enough to know
I can’t know everything.

The fact is
That no one can.
We’re all specialists
In our own special way,
On subjective subjects
And individuality.
This individual deficit
Creates a widespread symbiosis
But also may invoke
A bonding of colleagues.

I can’t build a cell phone.
I can’t make a decent tiramisu.
I can’t grow Rooibos.
But somehow, sitting here,
All three within my grasp,
I hope someone knows
How thankful I am,
And just how special
They’ve made this moment.
