An Emotion By Any Other Name

I don’t know
All the words
All the time,
And the names of feelings
Never seem adequate.

Is loneliness by choice
Still loneliness?
Are feeling the sense,
Recognizing the given name,
And stating the emotion
All equivalent?

An emotion is a specific condition
Given to a specific self-consciousness
Due to a specific stimuli.

But here we are,
My saying sad,
Or happy,
Or furious,
And it’s as if an echo
Has crossed an empty canyon
And the truest sentiments are lost
In the endless reverberations.
